The Utility Player, Chapter 20

The 3.5 knew going into his first team tennis match that he would have to carry his partner.

He had a plan: first serve in; up to the net; poach, poach, poach.

None of this did he do.

It’ll kill ya.

They were up 3-1 in the first set, life looking good, but whooopsidaisy, here come the unforced errors and they just keep coming.

Long, long, long: these are his shots. What happened to the bending of the knee, the start low / finish high?

Nothing happened. He was not the player on this day who could even carry himself.

Oh well. Game over. Now he is in the dugout about to start his first game of fall ball.

Batting fourth!

Batter UP!
